Disaster Readiness
Thousands of Australians who face bushfires, floods and cyclones every year deserve to be protected by a Federal Government that plans ahead and invests to keep them safe.
We know these repeated extreme weather events are very tough on people. We’re working closely with state and local government on clean up and recovery. We’re already delivering support to Australians who have been affected by floods and we’ve established a Special Envoy for Disaster Recovery.
Our Disaster Ready Fund will curb the devastating impacts of natural disasters by investing in important disaster prevention projects like flood levees, sea walls, cyclone shelters, evacuation centres, fire breaks and telecommunications improvements.
Agriculture
Aussie beef is the best in the world and we want to keep it that way. That’s why we’ve mounted the strongest biosecurity response in our nation’s history to protect our agricultural sector from the threat of foot-and-mouth disease.
We’ve also met with important trading partners at the G20 Tourism and Agriculture Ministerial Meetings to discuss the challenge of global food insecurity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, changing weather conditions and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
And coming out of the Jobs and Skills Summit, we’ve established a new working group to bring together unions, agriculture employers and government to address chronic workforce shortages.
NBN Connectivity
In Labor’s first budget, we announced that we’re upgrading more than 1.5 million businesses and households to full-fibre NBN access. It’ll mean better opportunities for businesses in rural communities.
Because Australians deserve access to high-speed internet whether they’re logging in from the bush or the suburbs.
