Northern Adelaide Veterans Hub Roundtable in Gawler

Friday, 18 November 2022

An Albanese Labor Government will invest $5million in funding for a new Veteran Wellbeing Centre in Spence.

The veteran’s hub in Spence will provide veterans and their families access to assistance from government, health services, ex-service organisations and community groups.

The facility will deliver a range of services including but not limited to medical and allied health services, mental health support, advocacy with Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) claims, employment advice and social connection activities.

Matt Burnell, Federal Member for Spence said a Veteran Wellbeing Centre was vital, given the North has one of the largest veteran populations in the country, including many younger veterans and families.

“I am pleased to hold a round of the Northern Adelaide Veterans Hub consultations here in Gawler.” Matt Burnell said.
“The third consultation in the series will add to the previous rounds held in March at the Stretton Centre in the City of Playford and October in the City of Salisbury.”

“Serving and Veterans groups were invited to participate in all three consultations to ensure that the Spence Veterans Wellbeing Centre delivers an appropriate service model to meet the needs of Veterans.”

“The roundtable on Monday the 14th of November held in the Gawler Civic Centre was very well attended.”

“Over 50 representatives participated from Government, Non-Government and ex-service organisations, education and defence industry employment providers, financial and legal organisations and charities located across the Northern region.“

The new veteran hub will service up to 16,000 veterans and their families across Spence and surrounding areas.

The northern areas of Adelaide are also home to many ADF members and families posted to RAAF Base Edinburgh, where more than 6,000 staff are posted, and this facility would allow these personnel to access high quality services in their local community.
